Hypnotherapy

Hypnosis is a state of relaxation called trance, which includes intensified attention or concentration, with a condition of heightened awareness and receptiveness to an idea or a set of ideas induced by suggestion. Hypnosis is simply the deliberate use of the imagination, paralleled with strong focus and relaxation.

Hypnosis is a natural and enjoyable state of consciousness that we all experience many times a day. From sitting idly at a desk and daydreaming to the mental focusing required to study in a noisy environment, are examples of the state that is known as hypnosis. When you are either just drifting into a sleep or awakening from sleep, when you can process vivid images or even contemplate re-entering a dream to continue it, these are all states of hypnotic trance.

When you go into hypnosis, you simply get very involved with an inner reality, and we can create this involvement and focus by drawing attention to detail in an interesting way using imagination. It's just like when you read a good book; a great author will make the words impossible to ignore - he or she will paint pictures in your mind. A good hypnotherapist will do the same. But it's not just about colourful imagination, it's about controlling your attention - getting it focused on one or a few things. You can do this by deliberately noticing sensations within your own body.

"Once in a while it really hits people that they don’t have to experience the world in the way they have been told to."

Alan Keightley

The subconscious mind is the storehouse of a person’s total experience, the memory of everything that ever happened to a person is stored in their subconscious mind. During hypnosis, long forgotten incidents, which are still affecting a person without them knowing why, can be brought back into consciousness allowing the presenting symptoms to disappear. To keep it simple, everything that is not of the intellect or conscious mind, is of the subconscious, which includes every molecule of the body. Our bodies and minds function together as parts of an interconnected system and interact with each other. Up to date research confirms that although our conscious brain stores some memory, the deeper, older messages are stored in the subconscious mind and the body. Therefore, it can only be accessed through the body and the subconscious. We cannot heal our emotions or our body by talk alone.

As it is the subconscious mind which controls our habits, hypnosis is also very effective in habit modification. Suggestion under hypnosis is one of nature’s way of healing, which dates back to before the sleep temples of the ancient Egyptians. Modern hypnotherapy is one of the most effective, fastest and safest forms of treatment for the majority of psychological disturbances and emotional problems.
